Ingredients
2 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 Medium Yellow Onion, finely diced
6 cloves Garlic, minced
2 (28-ounce) cans Whole Peeled San Marzano Tomatoes, crushed by hand
1/2 cup Fresh Basil Leaves, loosely packed and roughly chopped
1 tablespoon Fresh Oregano, finely chopped
1 teaspoon Sea Salt, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper, freshly ground, or to taste
Pinch of Red Pepper Flakes (optional)
1 teaspoon Granulated Sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
Instructions
- Heat the extra virgin olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the finely diced onion and sauté for 8-10 minutes until soft
- Add the minced garlic and pinch of red pepper flakes. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant
- Pour in the crushed San Marzano tomatoes and stir thoroughly
- Add fresh basil, oregano, sea salt, and black pepper. If using, add sugar and bring to a gentle simmer
- Cover partially and let simmer for at least 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally
- Taste and adjust seasonings. Serve once ready
