Ingredients
1 tablespoon Olive Oil
1.5 pounds Lean Ground Beef
1 medium Yellow Onion, finely diced
2 cloves Garlic, minced
1 cup Beef Broth
1/4 cup Ketchup
2 tablespoons Yellow Mustard
1 tablespoon White Vinegar
1 teaspoon Onion Powder
1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1/2 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper
Salt to taste
1 cup Mayonnaise
1/4 cup Sweet Pickle Relish
2 tablespoons Ketchup
1 tablespoon Yellow Mustard
1 tablespoon White Vinegar
1 teaspoon Onion Powder
1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1/2 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
Pinch of Sugar (optional)
8 Sesame Seed Hamburger Buns, toasted
8 slices Cheddar Cheese
1 cup Shredded Lettuce
1/2 cup Dill Pickle Slices
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat
- Add the finely diced yellow onion to the skillet and sauté for about 3-5 minutes until softened. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute
- Pour in beef broth, ketchup, yellow mustard, and white vinegar. Stir to combine. Sprinkle in onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt. Mix well
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and let it simmer gently for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally
- While the mixture simmers, prepare the Big Mac Special Sauce by whisking together mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, ketchup, yellow mustard, white vinegar, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and optional sugar until smooth
- To assemble, toast the sesame seed buns, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each bottom half, spoon the hot sloppy joe mixture over the cheese, add shredded lettuce, dill pickle slices, and top with Big Mac Special Sauce. Place the top bun on and serve immediately
Notes
For a spicier option, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the meat mixture or special sauce.
Feel free to substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
