Ingredients

15.25 ounce box white or yellow cake mix (plus ingredients to prepare it)
16 ounce can vanilla frosting (or cream cheese frosting)
1 pound melting chocolate (pink, red, or white)
60 lollipop sticks (4-inch or 6-inch)
Assorted sprinkles, edible glitter, or decorative icing pens
1 tablespoon vegetable oil or coconut oil (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven according to the cake mix package directions and bake the cake mix in a 9×13 inch pan as instructed. Let cool completely
  2. Once cooled, crumble the cake into fine crumbs in a large mixing bowl
  3. Mix in three-quarters of the can of frosting until a dough-like consistency forms
  4. Shape the mixture into heart shapes using a heart-shaped cookie cutter or by hand
  5. Chill the shaped hearts in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes
  6. Melt the candy melts or chocolate, adding oil if needed for thinner consistency
  7. Dip the tip of each lollipop stick in melted chocolate before inserting it into a cake pop
  8. Chill again for 10-15 minutes to set the chocolate
  9. Dip each pop into the melted chocolate for final coating and decorate immediately
  10. Stand the pops upright in a block of styrofoam or a cake pop stand to set completely
