Ingredients
15.25 ounce box white or yellow cake mix (plus ingredients to prepare it)
16 ounce can vanilla frosting (or cream cheese frosting)
1 pound melting chocolate (pink, red, or white)
60 lollipop sticks (4-inch or 6-inch)
Assorted sprinkles, edible glitter, or decorative icing pens
1 tablespoon vegetable oil or coconut oil (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven according to the cake mix package directions and bake the cake mix in a 9×13 inch pan as instructed. Let cool completely
- Once cooled, crumble the cake into fine crumbs in a large mixing bowl
- Mix in three-quarters of the can of frosting until a dough-like consistency forms
- Shape the mixture into heart shapes using a heart-shaped cookie cutter or by hand
- Chill the shaped hearts in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes
- Melt the candy melts or chocolate, adding oil if needed for thinner consistency
- Dip the tip of each lollipop stick in melted chocolate before inserting it into a cake pop
- Chill again for 10-15 minutes to set the chocolate
- Dip each pop into the melted chocolate for final coating and decorate immediately
- Stand the pops upright in a block of styrofoam or a cake pop stand to set completely
