Description
This Old-Fashioned Spaghetti Recipe is a comforting, savory meat sauce that clings perfectly to al dente pasta. It’s straightforward, budget-friendly, and allows for customization to suit your taste preferences.
Ingredients
1 tablespoon Olive Oil
1 large Onion, chopped
3 cloves Garlic, minced
1 pound Ground Beef
1 (28 ounce) can Crushed Tomatoes
1 (15 ounce) can Tomato Sauce
1 (6 ounce) can Tomato Paste
1/2 cup Water or Beef Broth
2 teaspoons Dried Oregano
1 teaspoon Dried Basil
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper
1 teaspoon Sugar (optional)
1 pound Spaghetti Pasta
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute
- Add the ground beef to the pot. Cook until fully browned. Drain excess fat, leaving enough to coat the bottom
- Stir in the tomato paste and cook for a few minutes. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and water or broth
- Season with oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar. Simmer covered for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally
- Cook the spaghetti in a large pot of salted water according to package directions until al dente
- Drain the spaghetti and combine with the sauce or serve it topped with the sauce
Notes
For a richer flavor, let the sauce simmer longer.
Reserve pasta water to adjust sauce consistency if needed.
