Description

This Old-Fashioned Spaghetti Recipe is a comforting, savory meat sauce that clings perfectly to al dente pasta. It’s straightforward, budget-friendly, and allows for customization to suit your taste preferences.

Ingredients

Scale

1 tablespoon Olive Oil
1 large Onion, chopped
3 cloves Garlic, minced
1 pound Ground Beef
1 (28 ounce) can Crushed Tomatoes
1 (15 ounce) can Tomato Sauce
1 (6 ounce) can Tomato Paste
1/2 cup Water or Beef Broth
2 teaspoons Dried Oregano
1 teaspoon Dried Basil
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper
1 teaspoon Sugar (optional)
1 pound Spaghetti Pasta

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute
  2. Add the ground beef to the pot. Cook until fully browned. Drain excess fat, leaving enough to coat the bottom
  3. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for a few minutes. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and water or broth
  4. Season with oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar. Simmer covered for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally
  5. Cook the spaghetti in a large pot of salted water according to package directions until al dente
  6. Drain the spaghetti and combine with the sauce or serve it topped with the sauce

Notes

For a richer flavor, let the sauce simmer longer.

Reserve pasta water to adjust sauce consistency if needed.
