2 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour
1 ½ teaspoons Baking Powder
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
½ teaspoon Salt
2 tablespoons Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
1 cup Unsalted Butter
1 ½ cups Granulated Sugar
2 large Eggs
1 tablespoon Vanilla Extract
2 ounces Red Food Coloring
½ cup Buttermilk
8 ounces Full-Fat Cream Cheese
½ cup Unsalted Butter
4 cups Powdered Sugar
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1–2 tablespoons Milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Set aside
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract and red food coloring
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are set
- Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack
- To make the frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth, then add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Adjust consistency with milk if necessary
- Once cookies are completely cool, frost generously
